Public Service

Jim Meyer served for more than 33 years in the Missouri Army National Guard and the Army Reserve where he began as a Private and retired in 2020 with the rank of Colonel. He has more than 9 years of active duty service, including 2 deployments and 3 state emergency duty events. He was a Boone County Fire Protection District firefighter and emergency medical technician from 1994 through 1998 and, during this period, was a founding member of Missouri Urban Search and Rescue Task Force One. Meyer also served as one of the Boone County election judges (poll workers) for the November 2020 election.

Civic Service

Jim and his wife Lisa were the Heart of Missouri United Way Annual Campaign Co-Chairs for 2018. Currently, Meyer is a board member for the Columbia Northwest Rotary Club and for the Mid-Missouri Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. He is also an Extra Mile Coach for Love, INC. Previously, Jim served as the president of the Fairway Meadows Improvement and Betterment Association a voluntary property owner's association.

Business Leadership

Jim and Lisa are co-owners of a small business, MeyerWorks, LLC where Jim is the managing broker. Through the business, the Meyers are members of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. Jim was the president of the Columbia Board of REALTORS© in 2017 and an active member of its leadership team from 2015 through 2019.

Education

Jim holds an MBA from Webster University in St. Louis (2010) and a BA in Geography from MU (1991). He is also a 1986 graduate of Rock Bridge High School.

Personal

Jim has been a Columbia resident since 1977, except for periods of active military duty, and resides in the 2nd Ward with Lisa along with their dogs, Sammy and Suzi along with their cat, Boots. They enjoy running, bicycling, swimming, reading, picking up trash and other volunteering.
